PLACE AND STREET NAMES OF PRETORIA

AAMBEELD STREET: SILVERTONDALE 1
Anvil: used in industry; an iron block, with a smooth flat face, on which the malleable metals are hammered and shaped.  They are of all sized, from the tiny anvils used by the watchmaker.

ABELMOSK AVENUE: LOTUS GARDENS
Abelmoschus tetrahyllos, a plant of India from which fibre is made and used like jute which it resembles.

ABEONA STREET: SUIDERBERG
A sailing ship used to transport the 1820 Settlers to the Cape Province.  On one of its journeys carrying William Russel’s party, it caught fire at sea and sank;  100 of the party being lost, 27 were picked up and carried back to England
